Bryant E News June 27 2016

Dear Friends,

There are only so many days in week and hours in a day, and like you, my calendar is filled with events and deadlines for work, time with family, church, and yes, even the occasional shopping trip for new shoes! My husband Rick is my rock and thankfully, with all of the door knocking I’m doing in this campaign, I can easily justify how important an extra trip to the shoe store can be for me now and then.

In this email newsletter, I strive to keep you updated on the important news from Springfield and updates on special events, and the accomplishments of the great people of the 115th district. With so much happening every day in this 24/7/365 world we live in, sometimes you just have to take a look back. Let’s see what Team Bryant was up to this week!

Session Scheduled for this Wednesday June 29
After canceling three scheduled days of legislative Session in the month of June, House Speaker Mike Madigan announced this week that the House will convene on Wednesday June 29th. When the May 31st deadline passed, Speaker Madigan pledged that the House would meet in “continuous” session every Wednesday until a budget resolution was found.

On May 31st, House Republicans introduced two bills to provide critical emergency funding ensure that our schools can open on time and that human service providers could continue to provide necessary functions to help the most vulnerable among us.

I have called every week on the Speaker to call these bills. Stopgap funding for our schools and human services will provide a small window of time for the legislature to solve our bigger budget issues. I have been very disappointed that so far the Speaker has refused to allow a vote on these bills. We are in a crisis in our state, and the time for action has long since passed. I am cautiously optimistic that this Wednesday’s Session will yield some positive results. Stay tuned.

Day of Action – Saturday, June 26th
This weekend my campaign took on a major project, and I am proud to say we had a very successful day!

I have been out walking door to door nearly every day talking with voters and hearing their concerns. This past Saturday, my campaign participated in a “Day of Action” with the goal of reaching out to as many residents of the 115th district as possible to listen to the opinions of Southern Illinoisans regarding the big issues facing our state.

I am proud to report that Team Bryant knocked on 799 doors in 10 different towns, covering 3 of the 5 counties in the 115th district! Listening to your concerns helps to inform my decision making in Springfield and I want to thank the folks that I spoke to personally for their frank and honest discussion on the issues.

Although we had a BIG day, we’re nowhere near satisfied…my door-to-door campaign will continue right up until the last vote is cast in November. This election is critical to the future of our state. Together, we can stand up to Mike Madigan and the Chicago Machine, grow our economy and put Southern Illinois Back to Work!

2nd Annual Swing into Summer Golf Scramble
I was thrilled to welcome so many supporters to my annual golf scramble in Murphysboro this week. Jackson County Country Club is one of the finest golf courses in Southern Illinois. Some pictures of the event are here. Thank you to all of you that came out to show your support! I look forward to seeing you again next year!

Miss Rodeo Illinois – Congratulatory Resolution

Last week I also presented Ms. Virginia Smith with a Congratulatory House Resolution in recognition of her winning the Miss Rodeo Illinois Pageant Competition. Virginia heads to Las Vegas to compete in the National pageant in November. We wish her the best of luck!

90th Birthday Flag Presentation

Mr. Bob Draege of Jefferson County recently turned 90 years old. To commemorate his birthday, and to thank him for his service to our country, I presented Bob with a flag that has recently been flown over the State Capitol in Springfield. Happy Birthday Bob and thank you for your brave service!
